About Bearded Theory
The Bearded Theory festival is held in the beautiful grounds of Catton Hall in Derbyshire over the May Bank Holiday weekend. It won the Best Small Festival 2013 prize at the UK Festival Awards – however it is actually the largest performing arts event in the Midlands. Originally conceived as a birthday party that took place behind a pub it has grown into a family friendly, independent full blown three day party that’s up there with the best of them.
Musically there’s plenty to enjoy at the Bearded Festival. These guys seem to prefer to take in the staple successes of the British guitar tradition with many of the best Indie, Britpop and Alternative acts gracing the main stage of this party. In addition to all this there’s the Tornado Town stage where you’ll get to hear everything and anything – and why not? Many of the acts at Bearded Theory are actually put on thanks to suggestions garnered from their audience.
There are a few quirks that help set Bearded Theory apart from many of the more mainstream festivals in the UK calendar. Every year attendees try to break the record for the largest amount of people wearing fancy dress and a big part of this is trying on a fake beard. Alongside this hairy craziness there’s everything from a tea tent to a superb children’s village that comes complete with a zip line and a tree house. This is one festival that’s managed to achieve the right formula for everyone.
