Looking for hotels near Wakestock?
Wakestock combines wakeboarding with top musical entertainment. It was founded back in 2000 by Mark Durston, a water-sports enthusiast with a keen eye for a party. His vision for a wakeboarding competition together with an event in a car park has grown into a huge three site, three day festival playing host to some 20,0000 attendees for a long, early July weekend on the Llyn Penisula in North Wales.
The Wakestock festival site has its own wakeboarding pool that contains a couple of hundred thousand gallons of water, allowing the stars of the sport to showcase their moves and grooves. This is a massive attraction that tows riders along via an overhead cable system. For real mental sickness, as they say on the scene, you’ll want to check the Big Air Classic competition that’s held in the original festival destination of Abersoch Bay on the Saturday.
Musically, you’ve got a wide variety of contemporary acts that tend to veer on the modern commercial side of cool at Wakestock. This is in line with many other events round the UK, but the vibe here is distinctly one that’s reminiscent of the endless summer atmosphere of those archetypal Northern California beaches. Nothing is too serious here - except for riding that wake.
