to Saturday 30th August 2014
Secret location, Kent
The In the Woods Festival was born in 2006. It started off when Tim Adam-Smith and Will Brown of the band Laurel Collective decided to put on a festival in one of their favourite dog-walking spots in Kent. The first event was a small affair for around 80 people, and since then it has grown to support a capacity of around 1,000 – taking place on the first full weekend in September. Don’t try to find out where it is however, as the location is a closely guarded secret only revealed to attendees shortly before the actual event.
The In the Woods festival is a small and intimate affair with two main music stages and a spoken word stage, where you can relax with spoken word dialogues, including poetry, storytelling and comedy. Musically this is one for the Indie purists who’re interested in seeing some of the less well known bands on the circuit. The vibe is all about meeting people with a genuine love of the scene – an antithesis to the larger, corporately sponsored events that sometimes grab all the headlines.
The In the Woods festival won the Best Independent Festival at the 2013 AIM awards and received two nominations at the 2013 UK Festival Awards. A big part of this event’s success is the art installations and lights that are scattered throughout the forest creating a magical atmosphere that’s on the right side of captivating.
